What you can't see on this photo is that I have actually half emptied it, and the kitchen floor was covered with fabric. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I am such a disgusting person. The problem is that I buy too much fabric, and then, when it arrives, I have a little stroke and chuck it into the cupboard to hide it from W who rolls his eyes and shakes his head at the ever growing fabric mountain that is our house. There's no getting away from it now, he has seen the floor covered in fabric, he walked in from work and was greeted by a sea of cottons lapping at his feet. He actually walked straight back out again and hid at his brother's house next door, it was all too much for him.
I did find a rather pretty strawberry tea towel that I had bought from Cath Kidston (in the sale no doubt) hiding in the depths of the cupboard, which is now (thanks to Bend the Rules Sewing) an apron. Hoorah!
Here's me modelling it (face carefully obstructed - I wouldn't want to frighten you on the Sabbath)
As I have now ironed all of my fabric (including scraps - and sorted them into colours, oh yes, I am taking this tidying seriously), I realised there's probably a bit too much of the stuff and subsequently banned myself from buying any more until I use up around a drawer full (in theory...) Fortunately this little lot managed to sneak in just in time. Phew! (japanese FQs are from here, and are very reasonably priced!)
Progress on the tidying is slow...it's a hard slog. But my ribbons are now looking like this....
and by the end of today my whole work area and cupboard will be worthy of a magazine spread (kinda...maybe not exactly)
so, WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!!!!
One thing I have forgotten to blog so far, since getting back from holidays, is this amazing robot cushion, made for the ginger one by Leah as his swap prezzie for the kiddy swap organised by Chloe. Isn't he fantastic? Ginge was over the moon when he opened the parcel (addressed to him too, not that he can read it, but it got me all excited)
He now lives on Ginger's bed, next to his pillow (that's prime real estate, let me tell you!)
Thank you Leah, we both love him!

I love the pic of your ribbons toasting gently on the pot-bellied stove. Do I detect a potential recipe? Something for tagliatelle perhaps.
Fantastic cushion! Love the left hand portion with the lasers.
My stash is currently one plastic bag (I don't have a proper sewing machine). I could so see how a whole ROOM could be filled with fabric goodness so your cupcoard looks rather restrained to me. It's now colour coordinated you say? That's dedication to tidying.
I'll stop rambling now - I think I've had too much jam for breakfast!
Cor,look at skinny, cute little you! (she says, eating a doughnut for breakfast!) The apron looks very pretty and the robot is fab!
Great blog!
The apron is lovely, and the robot is fab!
Will be back often!
:)annax
So cute! Also lovely to see people behind the blogs, even with faces obstructed. Your space is looking very tidy indeed.
Good for you getting your fabrics organized! My husband saw the pictures and said that's what our basement looks like. Really it looks worse! All of my craft supplies are stashed down there and it's a wreck!
I'm just envious you have a fabric cupboard. I'm about to revamp my lounge and spare room and I'd love to have a fabric cupboard if I can cram it in.
Well done for having a sort out, it did look like you needed one!

It's so exciting to see you at last! Even if you do have a huge camera for a face - very pretty! I'm very impressed with your tidying and the robot cushion from Leah is gorgeous! Lucy x
Loads of lovely blog pictures GM! Really nice things.
errr. . . . you call that a mess?! you should see my spare room - now that really is shamefull - hangs head.
Actually i think it's obvious you don't really need those japanese FQ's you know my address pop 'em in the post there's a love - hehehe x
Wow looking at Flickr as well you have been busy!!! One hangs her head in shame and needs to do the same thing. Hmm might drag CT down to the local wet markets (we'll need clothes pegs for the smell. Durians I tell you!) and find some el cheapo draws as I it will make life much easier than the stacking boxes (because I have to unpack half a box at a time to get the one I need.....). So one either leaves it in piles around the room or buys more (it's easier than the boxes....).... So my mess is more impressive than yours. I have a room and the dining room table. (2 machines = 2 creative spaces he he he....)
Wow Ginge is one lucky little man. Had to show CT, she has serious robot envy now. :D
Love the hidden face but know what you look like... Lovely apron too.
ooooh! i ordered fabric from sweetflavor just the otherday! infact i ordered that very same robot one plus a few others! yay!
Must be something in the air as i've been tidying my craft space too. Love your pots of ribbon. Great cushion. Jane x
Hi, I've been tidying too, I got a new cupboard for my fabric and at the moment all my fabric is all over the spare bed while it is under construction! Not sure if I will iron all mine though... Love the apron!
: )
hey!! please talk to me still!!! Noah and the whale were only dj'ing, not ACTUALLY singing!!!
And you are a pretty thing too, take the camera away from your face next time, we want to see you as well as lovely aprons!!!!
jx
I'm also on a ban from buying more fabrics and yarn..well untill I use up what I've got in my stash.
I look forward to seeing you imaculate craft room.
Mary
Prior to only a few months ago, my fabrics were all tossed in a big postal bag and chucked in the bottom of my wardrobe - very, very messy crafter I was. I turned a corner though and claimed the unused dining room and now have a cupboard of fabrics all folded neatly. Only problem now is I can see my addiction for all it is, only folded nicely. Love the new fabrics. Really can a girl have too much of a stash?
Hi Katy,
Have you been round at mine again, peeking through the windows?? How else would you know that I keep RGH in our understairs cupboard and only let him out when Simon isn't around??!
I love your pinny. I too have that book but am a little concerned that one tiny tea-towel wouldn't be enough to cover my ever-so-slightly-massiver-than-yours hips.
Good luck with the material stock-take. Bet you aren't able to stick to your "use a drawer-full before you buy any more" promise though ...
;)
Hmm, I kidded myself that my room would be looking magazine-esque by the end of the week... I does...but it's more 'Big Issue' than 'Good Housekeeping'. Good luck with the rest of that sorting!
I feel so unworthy. My 'tidying of the fabric' yesterday consisted of shoving as much on the shelves as I could and drawing the curtain over the front of it. Still, at least it's not on the floor anymore!
Love the jars full of ribbons. I have some jars in the cupboard. Hmmmm.
Great post Katy.. and ironing your fabric... goodness. I shove mine into plastic tubs so hard that the lid has a big curve in it. Nice Robot and nice to see you too x
I love your mirror!
oh that robot guy is just the bees knees! and those shoes of his are a hoot! nice work on the ribbons! and its good you are having a clear out/up (ok dont know how much out will happen). its good to know what you have!! and sweet that you found the cath k. towel, that apron is fabulous!
^^ nice blog!! ^@^
