mum - don't look, I mean it

I'll try and throw her off the scent with the rather beautiful pic of Hope Valley. Don't you think that would make a lovely quilt block? Just a square of each fabric, sewn together into a rectangular patchwork block, sashed and quilted. I might have a plan for the new year. I like that idea.

So. Mum. Have you gone now? She says she doesn't read my blog, too many pictures of tattoos. Tattoos are a sore point, a bit of a point of contention betwixt the two of us. Many arguments could be had, we won't go into it, I'll start ranting, she'll start sighing.

Are you gone?

Go on, go away. You'll just ruin your own surprise. Not that it is a real surprise, you picked the fabric, and you've seen the top unquilted. But still, I mean it, go away.

Ok, so I think she might have gone now. I can show the rest of you.

I picked up the quilt I really do hate yesterday (the one for my mum and dad for Christmas). I tried to look excited by it when I saw it, but failed miserably. I do hope Chris the quilter didn't think it was her quilting that was making my face look so sour.

The quilting is beautiful.....oak leaves and acorns, a perfect choice for the William Morris inspired designs.

It wasn't until I got it out, laid it on my bed, and tried to balance on the end of it without falling off (I fell off twice, and bumped my bum on the hard bed post - ouch).
My sour face changed.....

It's actually really lovely.

Do you agree?

Even the husband agreed, and he was really quite mean about it before it was quilted.

Now, to the binding. I think that this year, despite being somewhat of a disappointment where the body art is concerned, I will score excellent daughter points. (Insert smug smile)

It's lovely and she'll love it. On the other hand if she doesn't....give her a tattoo voucher for Christmas next year :)
I LOVE your bed! You must feel like a queen going to bed each night in that.

Yahoo! It's really lovely, Katy! Aren't you glad that's over?! :-) Did any of the prints remind you ever so slightly of Liberty? Could you maybe unfocus your eyes as you sewed and imagine it? It's beautiful! The quilting is gorgeous! Points will no doubt be scored!

The quilting is wonderful, and that bed, divine! I'm still not feeling the love for the fabric, but then it was your mother's choice, and it's for her, so as long as she loves it, that's all that counts.
Huge best daughter points for you I reckon.
Hugs, Kelly :-)

It really does look lovely Katy! I know your mum and dad are going to love it - the quilting is awesome, I don't think I can ever hope to achieve anything like that!

I don't know if she looked or not - but you will see a big smile on her face when she receives the quilt!!!

I have a few of the William Morris inspired fabrics. They are pretty, but difficult to combine with something else I think. But this big selection of prints together are very pretty. The quilting is fab, too. I wouldn't hesitate sending my quilts off to her...

I am hoping to find some Hope Valley under the three
; ) if only the mail isn't delayed...

The good news is it looks gorgeous... but it looks especially gorgeous on YOUR bed!!!

She's only got a thing against tattoos cos the one she's got just doesn't look cool any more...!!!

Love the look of your boots by the way!!

Justa thimbleful....

The quilt looks great, the bed looks divine but I am with your moher on the tattoos! It is a mother- thing. Or a generation thing. But remember, a mothers love is unconditional.

By the way, naughty girl, were you SDTANDING on that beautiful bed?

I like the blue in it, makes it pop. Just got back from Portland. Can you believe I didn't buy any fabric? Fabric Depot has 1 1/2 acres of fabric and I went with none fabric people. Took me a day to get over the fact that I wasn't going to bore them with it. Drown my sorrows in eggnog lattes.

The quilting is really spectacular! BTW, is your new tattoo finished in B&W, or is there colour coming next? It is really amazing and sparked a 30 minute conversation amongst the 8-12 year old girl cousins on our holiday when they spied me checking it out on the laptop! Your mum will be happy to know they were grossed out.

The quilt, and quilting, are lovely, which I am sure was part of the problem. You and Chris did a great job. My mother also says she doesn't read my blog but then she comments on things that have been posted there. For that reason I can't post pictures of what I make her until they are presented. MOTHERS!!

It is lovely. It is really lovely. The quilting makes it, too. As a mom of 8 (7 are girls) tattoos are a sore point with me too. So I won't get into that. You have your own mom but I feel her, I do. She will really love the quilt. I love how you threw her off. Good job.

Definitely excellent daughter points. You are fantastic Katy! What gorgeous gift, I hope my mum's not reading either, I'd lose big daughter points - and I don't even sport a single tattoo. She's getting a poor show from me this year and no visit either :(
