soak - a giveaway

soak

If you're a knitter you have probably already heard about Soak. I heard about it via Amanda who swears by it for all her precious things (knitting and stitchy alike). She sent me a couple of the single soak sachets and once I tried them out on quilts, I was hooked. But then I couldn't find it in the UK. Simply because I wasn't looking in the right places, because I'm not a knitter and I don't know where knitty folk go to buy their knitty stuffs.

Fortunately I was happily sat on twitter (as I tend to be most of the time) and I noticed Jacqueline (Lady Soak herself) tweeting about UK stockists. Well, I tweeted her back with a 'where where where?' and she told me (thank you Jacqueline). (Also herehere and here and here and here). So off I went and bought myself a nice big bottle. I had up until that point decided I would stock up when I was next stateside and bring it home with me in my luggage.

This is why it's great - it's gentle, you need a tiny bit, just a teaspoon for hand washing, I use a smidge more for the washing machine, but I only use the rinse cycle - Soak doesn't need to be rinsed out like regular soap. It smells really delicate - no harsh perfumes, just a lovely light scent (or unscented if you prefer).

Completely unrelated to anything stitched - it's great for make up brushes too. In fact, it's just great all round. You could pop one of the 120ml bottles into your suitcase when you went away and use it to rinse out your bikini or whatever. Or your smalls (is it just me that washes their underwear when they go away, as they're away? I always have done. Take my smalls in the shower with me. Is this too much information? Probably, sorry.)

I asked Jacqueline if I could get some single soak sachets to give away - to spread the love of Soak around to you guys. She said yes! Oh yay. So I have one big bottle (this lasts around 80 washes - because you really only need a teaspoon or so) and a set of single soak sachets.
So one lucky person gets the big bottle and then 1 other will get the sachets. I'll pick 2 winners in a week, just leave a comment on this post (just the one comment please) and make sure I have a way to contact you.

(International entries are welcome)

This sounds like a really great product. I just checked out their website and I think I will look into finding some around here!

i have this pinned from somewhere else - maybe from porkchop - but as i am lazy i haven't bought any yet! i have however, suffered from holed in my knitting - which i've been told may be b/c of "dirty" linens. doesn't that sound horrid? thanks for a chance at a win!

Cassie said...

That's great! I was just thinking recently that I needed to find something gentler to wash my quilts with.

Rachel said...

I've never seen Soak but it looks great. You're not the only one who washes out her "smalls" while on vacation. The thought of a suitcase full of dirty undies...ewwww.

Katy Cameron said...

Ooh, sounds interesting! Might skip taking my undies in the shower with it on my hols (but then I have actually posted dirty washing home from holiday surface mail, minus undies, so perhaps I can't comment ;o) )

Thanks for the chance to win :o)

That sounds amazing! I would love to give it a try. Yes, I also wash my smalls in the shower when I go away...I love it when hotels have that little washing line that pulls out across the shower cubicle. Small things make me happy - HAH! xo

Sounds wonderful! Thank you for the giveaway!

Cass said...

This sounds lovely, do you know if you can get it in Australia. I probably should have checked your links but google reader on the ipad makes me lose the original post if I do that

OK disregard my last post I've just checked your links and its available here

have never heard of this, thanks for sharing! would definitely love to try it!

Rats, the distributor here in NZ doesn't seem to exist anymore so yes please count me in for a sample! I've just bought a bunch of ultra-fine merino tops and things for winter and I know they develop holes in them if you use regular detergents

Catherine said...

Yes I have heard of Soak but have never been able to get where I live although perhaps like you I am not looking in the right places. It sounds like the perfect delicate detergent. And yes I do wash my smalls while I'm away :-)

Colleen said...

This stuff sounds wonderful! I will have to find some to use! Thanks for the review!

Audrie said...

I was just given a small thing of Soak but I have yet to use it.

And I wash my smalls if I'm away more than 3 or 4 days. Otherwise I just bring many pairs of underoos and I'm all set hehe That makes me sound like I wee myself...

Well since you mentioned me taking it on a trip and soaking my bikini in it then I guess I'd better enter, for two reasons... 1. I haven't been on a vacation in years, and 2. I haven't worn a bikini in years.
Maybe if I win, all my dreams will come true!

I just started knitting last November, and adore it---so the care and washing of the coveted knitties ( that I finally complete) is all new news to me. Would love to try it!

Oh, lovely. I've read about Soak on Twitter but hadn't really thought about getting it as I thought it was only for knitty stuff. It sounds fabulous.
Thanks for a great giveaway.

That sounds interesting and I would use it while traveling for my underwear as well. Did the West Highland Way last summer (with plenty days to explore along the route) and I really would have hated to carry 20 nearly identical pieces of clothes in my backpack...

Heleen Groot said...

Never heard of Soak, but it sounds really good! I would love to try it. By the way, I wash all my stuff on holiday. Since I tend to go to my project in The Gambia it is handwashing all the way (think rocks and river and then move up a little, but just a little mind you). You see, I could really do with Soak!

The undomesticated scientist said...

had not heard of this but i'm sure i need some! (well i need some to give to my mum who does all my 'delicate' washing!) fingers crossed!

Sounds like something I really should try, thanks Katy.

I'd love to try it!

Isisjem said...

I'm never away long enough to worry about washing my smalls but when my S-I-L travelled a lot for work and had baggage limitations she'd wash hers in the shower using shower gel. You have to be inventive when they limit your luggage!

Freddie said...

Sounds like something to try out. With cat, dog and children my sofa quilts need regular washing. Well so does the one that lives on my bed because it mostly lives under the cat.

Thanks for sharing about Soak...I've never heard of it and would love the chance to "soak" it up and give it a whirl. :)

SOAK sounds like very good stuff indeed. I like that you only need a teeny tiny amount, appeals to the frugal, less is more way of things. I'd love to try it out. Fingers crossed.

Elena said...

Yay! What a good giveaway! Soak is great for my cross-stitches, too!

I've used a different brand for my fine wahables, I'd love to try SOAK

I luuurve soak! But never thought of its other infinite uses before.

And the pant washing thing is not weird. Who wants to get pulled in customs and have a security man rummaging around in your suitcase full of dirty smalls. How embarrassing. Ask me how I know.

heather said...

I'm going to have to buy some to wash quilts and afghans.

Kelly said...

It sounds like a fab product!

I have only washed if I ran out! If the custom man wants to mess with my worn pants, he can have at them!! ;-)

I've seen Soak advertised in magazines but never known where to find it in the UK and I didn't realise it didn't need to be rinsed out, thanks for the tip!! As for washing your smalls in the shower...I suppose it depends how small your smalls are!! Can't imagine doing it with granny knickers - they'd take loads of wringing/wrapping in a towel and stamping on!

ChrisC said...

I've been meaning to try this out. Crossing my fingers! Thanks for the giveaway.

I am not familiar with SOAK, but it sounds great! I try to be as gentle as possible with my quilts, but it honestly hadn't occurred to me to wash them with something like this!
thanks!

Amy said...

Soak is the BEST stuff EVER!! Love it! I've been using it on my handknits for a few years now and won't use anything else. And I'm totally not above admitting that I'm down to my last tiny bit of my bottle and would enter a giveaway to try and win some. Haha!!

Jennifer said...

This is great! I have a crocheted blanket my grandmother gave me a long time ago, and I was recently trying to figure out how to wash it (it doesn't get used very often). I guess I know now! Haha!

I am one of those who have tried it an been converted. It's about the only handwash liquid that doesn't bring my hands out in a rash AND gets by grubby stitching really clean.

Absolutely briliant product!

Hi Katy!
After following you on twitter and instagram for a very long time, I finally found your blog! YAY! I love that you call your underfugs "smalls". We call them "unders" because that's what The Roo calls them. I love how kids change your whole world, including your vocabulary! Anyway, thanks for sharing this info, it sounds like the kind of product that is way up my alley (oooh!). Even if I don't win, I'm still going to check it out! See ya around!
